Texas BigBeat

Drumming Up Dreams
Creating new possibilities for our youth, our families and our communities!

Texas Big Beat is a statewide drumming event that raised funds to provide educational programs for underprivileged, special needs and at-risk children so that they can create a positive and productive future for themselves. Drummers of all ages and all levels of experience registered as participants to generate contributions for Cherish Our Children International (COCI), to help create a brighter future for the world’s most vulnerable children.

We had 438 drummers who gathered at the Texas BigBeat to celebrate their love of drumming while making a difference for our youth, our families and our communities.  This was an awesome turnout for the 1st Annual Texas BigBeat and the energy and spirit of the group was heart warming.

  • Rod Ryan of 94.5 "The Buzz" gave a rousing welcome to everyone followed by an amazing experience – 438 drummers playing "Deep in the Heart of Texas".
  • The drummers played along with the Percussion Center band, under the direction of Dr. Aubrey Tucker, director of the Houston Dynamo pep band.
  • Throughout the program drummers played along to other popular songs while also getting a chance to hear from Liberty DeVitto (played with Billy Joel for 30 years) and Rich Redmond (plays drums for Jason Aldean).
  • Also high lightening the event, were Marilyn Gambrell and children from the No More Victims program!

Thanks to the generosity of you and many others, the drummers generated over $21,000 in contributions from family and friends. Prizes donated from Kaman of Toca, Gibraltar, and Gretsch, and Yamaha, Promark, Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Mapex, HPCustom Drums, and DrumFun , were awarded to the drummers who raised the most money for Cherish Our Children International.
The event was organized by the Percussion Center, Houston's only specialty drum and percussion store, along with other sponsoring corporations, businesses, and associations. For more information, go to www.texasbigbeat.com or email texasbigbeat@percussiononline.com
