About Us and Board Member Expectations
Cherish Our Children, Inc. (COCI) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create sustainable solutions to inspire and positively impact vulnerable children their families and communities. Our vision is a world where every student has the resources and tools necessary to create a healthy and successful life. We value integrity, respect, service, and teamwork. We expect each of our board members to act with honor and integrity, treat others the way they want to be treated, embrace their role as servant leaders and work as a team creating synergy and collaboration.
Through our GEMS program (Gaining Empowerment in Middle School) we are working to fulfill our mission of empowering our students that are impacted by the incarceration of a family member by providing resources and tools for their success at home, school and in their communities.
Expectations of COCI Board members:
Act in good faith with ordinary care and in a manner they believe to be in the best interests of COCI.
Avoid all potential conflicts of interest.
Serve a three-year term with the option to extend for an additional three years.
Attend all regularly scheduled board meetings (currently 10 a year) with no more than 2 absences unless these absences are excused by the Chairman of the Board.
Prepare for all meetings by reviewing the posted board materials on Board Sourced in advance of the meeting.
Actively engage in meetings and volunteer for committee assignments.
Become familiar with and follow the Roberts Rules of Law.
Actively engage in all special events/fundraising activities through attendance and meaningful financial contributions.
Sign the expectations document, which will include a conflicts statement and financial commitment upon board approval of board application.
